ISO 3834
Evaluate the conformity of the welded products
ISO 3834 is the standard dedicated to welding and defines useful guidelines for welding activities, both for those who perform them and for those who evaluate them.
The ISO 3834 standard is a process standard that addresses, regardless of the product, all the activities related to a specific production process, and also a transversal standard as it is applicable to different products and sectors.
ISO 3834 is designed to be used for both fabrication (including any type of fusion welded construction) and evaluation. It is used by internal and external organizations (clients, construction management), to evaluate the ability of a "manufacturer of welded products" in satisfying the customer's requirements, regulations or their own requirements.
The ISO 3834 standard (part 2a-3a-4a) is applicable both to companies operating in the EA 17-18-22a-28-29b sectors on a "voluntary" basis (eg Dir.PED 97/23 / CE, Dir.Macchine 2006/42 / CE etc.), whose product is made by making permanent joints / welding of metal materials (products / welded metal structures) both in the production workshop and in external sites and also in combination with each other (production workshop + external sites), and at companies operating in the EA 17/28 sector under the "mandatory" regime (ref. DM 14-01-2008 / Technical Standards for Construction, and from 01-07-2014 according to EN 1090-1 for CE marking according to Regulation (EU) 305/2011.
Furthermore, with the new European regulatory scenario that imposes the CE marking for structural metal products according to EN 1090-1, compliance with ISO 3834 becomes mandatory and preparatory for all companies that produce structural metal products assembled by means of welded joints.
The complexity of this process requires the total involvement of all company structures and, in order to allow the good quality of the welds, it is essential to plan, implement and qualify the processes, the welders and control the products adequately and comprehensively.
The more companies in the sector act in harmony with the applicable standards (ISO 9001 and ISO3834), international codes, technical specifications, which require the observance of certain safety and process requirements, the more reliable and demonstrable the quality of production processes and products will be, but for this it is necessary that all the personnel involved, both managerial , coordination and operational is made aware of this.
The standard has been structured in such a way that it can be used for the manufacture, both in the workshop and on site, of any type of fusion welded construction.
We point out, in particular, that the certifications EN ISO 9001 and EN ISO 3834 are mandatory for the application of the new Technical Standards for Construction issued with the DM January 14, 2008.
Advantages for the company that certifies itself
- in a contract between the manufacturer and the purchaser of the goods, the standard allows for an unequivocal definition of the welding characteristics and provides specific guidelines for the verifications/qualification of suppliers of welded products
- for welded product suppliers it is a useful tool to define and maintain quality requirements for welding
- for the technical committees it becomes a point of reference in the preparation of structural codes or other implementing rules
- under the European Directives (PED, CPR, Simple Rec.), constitutes "presumption of conformity"
- it integrates perfectly within the quality management systems according to EN ISO 9001 and production control systems according to EN 1090-1.
Certification Process
> Request for an offer from the customer interested in certification
> Acquisition of all the information necessary for the certification and issue of the offer by AX-REGISTER
> Acceptance of the offer by the customer
> Analysis of any gaps and assessment of the current compliance of the ISMS with the regulatory requirements
> Verification aimed at evaluating the implementation of the principles and structure of the Management System (applicable legislation and regulations, security policy, risk analysis, Statement of Applicability (SoA), clear and consistent definition of the purpose, risk treatment plan)
> Verification aimed at evaluating the adequate and effective implementation of the Management System, through techniques that involve the analysis of documents, observations, interviews with personnel.
> This verification is aimed at issuing the certificate
> Audit carried out annually after certification, to check continuous improvement
> The Renewal Audit is carried out after three years following a complete verification or continuous evaluation over time.
