SA 8000: 2014
Manage corporate social responsibility
The company is globalizing, the markets are becoming more and more demanding, the fierce competitors and the sophisticated technologies, but the real knots become tangled or untied with reference to the use of human resources.
To face the new challenges, companies become institutions that create well-being and play their own role in the integration of the economic - social - environmental system, enhancing their relationships with employees, social partners, the local community, consumers, authorities. public and other stakeholders.
A response to the new needs of the market comes from SA8000 standard, which can help the company to control risk situations, also contributing positively to the evaluation of its own "score" against the typically most used criteria of excellence: the workers are happier, the customers are more satisfied, the satisfaction is better by the community and shareholders are also more protected, as well as gratified by the increase in reputation.
The SA8000 standard identifies an international standard aimed at certifying some aspects of the business management pertaining to corporate social responsibility Which:
- Respect for human rights
- Respect for workers' rights
- Protection against the exploitation of minors
- The guarantees of safety and health in the workplace
The international standard therefore aims to improve working conditions worldwide and above all allows the definition of a standard that can be verified by certification bodies.
The standard was born as an aggregation formed by the principles established by other international documents such as:
- ILO conventions (International Labor Organization)
- Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- International Convention on the Rights of the Child
- United Nations Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women
Over time, the standard is updated and revised.
In this context, the new edition of the SA8000: 2014 standard on social responsibility management systems was published, applicable starting from 1 January 2015.
Advantages for the company that certifies itself
- improvement in the management of "business risks"
- improvement in relations with interested parties inside and outside the company
- generalized improvement of the company's reputation (which extends to suppliers and sub-suppliers)
- competitive advantage over the competition
