It recovers and sells glass cullet
On December 31, 2012, the EU Regulation 1179/2012, which establishes when glass cullet destined for remelting processes cease to be considered waste.
The provision represents the second "implementing" regulation of article 6 of Directive 2008/98 / EC on waste (preceded by regulation 333/2011 / EU on ferrous scrap), a rule that establishes the general conditions for the termination of the qualification of waste ( so-called "end of waste").
Similarly to what has already been done with EU Regulation 333, companies must have a Quality Management System whose validity is recognized by a third and independent body.
In order for glass cullet to exit the waste regulatory framework, the following conditions must be met:
- Come from separate collection;
- Possess minimum quality standards;
- Be destined for recast processes;
- Have process management systems;
- Declaration of conformity.
Advantages for the company that certifies itself
- Possibility of accessing the market for the production / recovery / marketing of glass scrap
- Ensure that the materials entering the plant and the materials leaving the production / recovery plant have the characteristics required by the Regulations
- Possibility of placing products on the market instead of waste: in this way you avoid complying with the national and regional mandatory requirements on waste
- Possibility of integration of the Quality Management System with other company management systems
- Recognition by an independent third-party body of compliance with the European Regulation
